Color Principles and Strategies

Instructor ~ Ian Factor
Course Description: An intensive and practical overview of the principles and techniques of color theory and color mixing for the visual artist. This workshop is for anyone working with any media or material; painting, drawing, digital design, etc. Students will be introduced to color theory based on the subtractive color model (red, yellow, blue). The group will discuss and practice accurate color matching and mixing while creating several color charts using either oil, watercolor, acrylic or gouache. Students can use any liquid media (paint) they choose to bring.
Some of the topics covered will be: Working with a limited, monochrome, duotone & three-color “dead” palette • Navigating a “full” prismatic palette • Understanding color temperature relationships • Seeing and adjusting for chromatic value • Creating visual narratives through dynamic chromatic saturation • An overview of different brands of trustworthy pigment recommended for each medium.

Understanding the Facial Features - Workshop
(For any skill level)
Wednesdays - February 8th & February 15th

Instructor ~ Ian Factor
Course Description: If you’ve ever tried to draw, paint or sculpt a potrait but couldn’t quite get the nose right, or had a hard time making the eyes look just like the eyes of your subject, this workshop is for you.
This workshop will cover all the features of the face and head; eyes, nose, mouth and ears, as we review the basic structure and construction of each, from any angle and with different light sources.The workshop will also introduce students to the multitude of various structural changes and forms each feature takes when different emotions are expressed. We will look at how the features change individually as well as how they all influence the others.
Students will work from handouts, diagrams, photos and plaster casts supplied by the instructor. For anyone interested in portraiture, from traditional, to comic and animation art, this is a perfect stand alone workshop or one to be taken as a follow-up to a previous portrait class or in preparation for our upcoming portrait drawing workshop.

Portrait Drawing - Workshop
(For any skill level)
Wednesdays - March 15th & March 22nd
2pm - 5pm (6 hour workshop)

Instructor ~ Ian Factor
Workshop Description: Starting with the structure and proportions of the human head and face, students will then review basic facial features and expressions. Next the course will cover different methods of “blocking in” large shapes first, then working into the details to establish an accurate likeness and sense of character. The later part of the workshop will focus on value accuracy and edge control to bring an emotional and narrative content to your portrait work. Students will work in charcoal, graphite and conté and will have live models, skeletons, plaster casts and anatomy charts to reference in every session. There will a high level of one-on-one time and attention from the instructor given the small group size. All model fees are included in the price.

Drawing with Pen & Ink - Workshop

Instructor ~ Ian Factor
Workshop Description: This fun and intensive workshop covers the many different tool, techniques and methods or drawing with ink. We will go over the many types of pen handles, nibs, surface (paper and board), inks, brushes and other materials to use with this medium. Students will experiment with different mark making and will look at master works from the history of pen and ink images. Realistic rendering, graphic design, comic book inking and experimental approaches will all be part of the discussions, presentations and practice in these sessions. Whether you’re interested in classical figure drawing, contemporary illustration or graphic design, this class will present the tools and techniques to expand to your skill-sets and experiences with this historical and diverse medium.

Drop - In Life Drawing Sessions
(Uninstructed - For any skill level)
Thursdays - Ongoing Aside from Holidays
5pm - 8pm
$20.00 per 3 hour session - Pay per session in person
Uninstructed ~ Coordinated by Ian Factor / Factor Fine Art
Description: These drop-in sessions are open to artists and students of all skill levels and allow participants to work with a live model for three hours per session, per week. The groups will be uninstructed but will be monitored and coordinated by Director Ian Factor. Any and all drawing and painting materials are welcome. (Gamsol only for oil painters, no turpentine please!). Chairs, easels and drawing benches will be supplied by Factor Fine Art, but feel free to bring your own travel easel if you prefer. The sessions will generally start with quick gestures, move into 15-20 minute poses and finish with one longer pose.Participants must either be fully vaccinated and boosted or wear a mask. Proof of vaccination will be required to join the group.
Mask and Vaccine Policy
All students and participants in Factor Fine Art programs are expected to be fully vaccinated & boosted.
Proof of vaccination is required to be sent to ian@factorfineart.com prior to any in-person training.
FFA highly recommends those who are eligible receive a booster.
Please follow the CDC guidelines to determine your booster eligibility.
Masks are optional but encouraged, even if you’re vaccinated.
If you are symptomatic, believe you had an exposure, or have a positive COVID test and were at FFA for class, we ask that you notify us ASAP and follow the CDC's isolation and quarantine guidelines.
If you have any signs of illness, we ask that you refrain from coming to FFA until you are symptom free for at least 48 hours. This includes symptoms of flu and the common cold, like fever, sniffles, runny nose, sore throat, as well as symptoms of COVID infection.
Our priority is to make sure everyone involved here at FFA has a positive & healthy experience.

Student Agreement
Factor Fine Art will provide all students with the use of its instructional services, consultation, facilities and studio equipment during the term of their enrollment as stated above. There are no refunds or credits for missed training regardless of the students attendance or whether or not they use the facilities and services provided by the Academy.
Rights to Cancellation / Course Credit
• If upon a doctor’s order, the student cannot physically or mentally receive the services because of significant physical or medical disability for a period of 3 consecutive weeks and only before the first half of the course / term has been completed.
• If Factor Fine Art’s services provided under this agreement are not available because FFA discontinues operation or if FFA is relocated more than 25 miles from its original location before the end of the above agreed upon course(s).
Warrant of Student’s Physical Fitness
Student is familiar with their own physical condition and assume responsibility for their physical fitness and capability to receive art instruction. They have informed Factor Fine Art and all instructors and / or consultants of all physical limitations before the first day of in-person training, and will continue to do so on a timely basis.
All students must be aware of the physical demands of art making and hereby release Factor Fine Art and all instructors and / or consultants from any and all responsibility from any and all injuries and / or illnesses they may incur while training at Factor Fine Art at 67 Main Street, Bridgton, ME 04009, or under the guidance of any and all instructors of FFA at any and all locations, including national or international travel programs.
It is Acknowledged that the Responsible Party:
Has read, understood and agreed to all conditions set forth in the above Agreement, has freely chosen to execute the Agreement above by enrolling and paying for any and all training, and agrees to allow the use of their electronic or photographic image or image of any artwork produced while a student and / or participant to promote Factor Fine Art, either in print or digital format.
